Can AI replace Framer?
You can build a simple AI/site generator and host static pages, but Framer's animation/design editor, CMS, hosting, templates, and publishing polish are real product depth.

02Could AI build it for you?
The core job: Generate site sections, edit them visually, save JSON/page data, and deploy static output to a host.
What a working version needs:
- React/site builder
- CMS/storage
- static exporter
- hosting
- domain/DNS
- optional LLM API
Good modern website-builder target with a plausible DIY core.
03What you'd give up
- visual design polish
- animations
- templates
- CMS
- hosting
- preview/publish flow
- forms
They pay because polished landing pages ship quickly with minimal design-engineering friction.
04Free and cheaper alternatives
A hosted visual builder with CMS, interactions, Figma import and a custom domain free; the badge remains.

Build me a landing-page workshop to replace Framer. Requirements: - A static site setup: Astro with Tailwind, building to plain files. No database, no server at runtime. - A section library as components with props: hero, feature grid, testimonial, pricing table, FAQ, footer. All copy for a site lives in one content.json. - New-site flow: I describe the product, an LLM (key in .env) drafts content.json, then I edit copy by hand from there. Generation is a helper script, not a runtime dependency. - One theme file for fonts, colors, and spacing so every page looks consistent without per-page design work. - Live preview via `astro dev`; `npm run build` emits dist/ ready to host. - deploy.sh that rsyncs dist/ to my VPS (or any static host). - Sites live in ./sites/<name>/ under git; no accounts, no telemetry, the only network call is the optional LLM draft. - Out of scope: a visual drag-and-drop editor, scroll animations, a CMS UI, and forms. I edit files; the section library is the product here. - README: setup, deploy config, and how to add a new section component.
